The is a rare recording of tracks played on air in 1988 with the legendary Australian trumpeter, Bob Barnard & his quartet. To my knowledge this recording is the only copy that survives as the show was a live radio broadcast and not committed to tape at the time. These tracks have been rescued from a cassette tape I left running at home on the day. I recall that the show was briefly rehearsed in the afternoon at the studio and then we played the actual show live to air in the evening. The radio announcer and host is Jim McLeod and it was also partly a celebration of Irving Berlin's 100th Birthday. Bob wrote the charts the night before and in a cab on the way to the studio session and I likewise came up with the charts to "Limehouse Blues"and "Airmail Special" at a local pub the day of the broadcast during a lunch break. It was a very special honour to be asked to do this broadcast as all of the members were all Australian Jazz legends and sadly, Bob is the only remaining member now (July 2013). I was 22 yrs old at the time.
